Meet Sam
Sam recently completed our 200 hour yoga teacher training. She is teaching his first public class Saturday, July 16th at 6:00 pm. All proceeds will go to the Pauline Juliet.
Why did you decide to go through teacher training?
For me it was more why not go for it. I spent my whole life doing what I thought was expected: Living every moment for a future that didn’t exist yet. I wanted to have purpose and happiness NOW. Yoga gives me something to turn to. Something that makes me better every day, on and off the mat. I’m so grateful.
What is your favorite pose and why?
Headstand-I feel so centered when I’m upside down. The breath here is just like a wave of calm. Plus I feel so strong.
What is your least favorite pose and why?
Triangle or Humble Warrior-it depends on the day but I think mainly because they both don’t feel quite rightnaturally. I have to put effort into relaxing and it’s definitely a challenge.
If you could offer one piece of advice for someone who was thinking about going through teacher training what would it be?
Just go for it! It WILL open up your eyes to so many different things. You learn so much about yourself and other people. Your practice will definitely get deeper. I feel like even if you don’t think you’ll want to teach after its still gives you an amazing feeling of accomplishment that makes it all worth it.
What is one thing you wish people knew about you before meeting you?
Honestly, I’m not sure. I can be super awkward sometimes and after accepting that hey I’m just occasionally a big ball of awkward I just tend to let those encounters go. Sometimes I have RBF (resting bitch face), but I’m probably just thinking really hard about what I want to eat later.
